ECHOES OF THE NORTH

With four Belgian premieres, this Ars Musica program explores contemporary Nordic music in its most honest form: calm, concentrated, and unadorned. In Catamorphosis, Bozars composer-in-residence, Anna Thorvaldsdottir creates music from slow shifts and irreversible change. Here, sound becomes matter, shaped by tension and time. In Anders Hillborg’s The Strand Settings, the human voice takes center stage. Soprano Ida Falk Winland moves through a world where text, sound, and silence probe one another. Kristine Tjögersen’s Between Trees allows music to emerge from perception itself, with subtle nature sounds that blur the boundary between inside and outside. Hans Abrahamsen concludes with Vers le Silence: an intensely concentrated movement towards silence. Conductor Eva Ollikainen masterfully guides us through an evening of imaginative listening, where profound human emotions take the stage.
