Michal Batory Exhibition

Galerie Odradek XL , Ixelles

For several years, the renowned graphic designer Michał Batory has created the poster for Ars Musica. In 2024, his artistic world can be discovered at the Odradek Gallery.

Born in Poland in 1959, a former student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, Michał Batory belongs to the great tradition of Polish poster artists' graphic avant-garde. After settling in Paris in the late 1980s, he worked successively for the Théâtre National de Chaillot, the Théâtre National de la Colline, IRCAM, and Radio France's "Signature" collection. For many years, Ars Musica festivalgoers have been able to admire his highly personal style, as he designs the festival's graphic design and poster. Now, for Urban Nature , the Odradek Gallery is presenting an exhibition of Michał Batory's work, primarily focused on his posters and album covers created over the years. The graphic style of visual communication he invented is revealed in all its coherence. Against a striking monochrome background, a body or object stands out, always poetic, somewhere between surrealism and abstraction, surprise and sometimes cruelty, incongruity and subversion. Furthermore, three concerts will accompany this exhibition. Indeed, Fabian Coomans on piano at the opening, then Jean-Louis Marchand on clarinet on November 22nd, and finally, saxophonist Jan Rzewski will perform successively in the Odradek gallery, amidst the works of Michał Batory… Like a definitive revelation of the innovative relationship between image and music.
