What new opera is there for today's music?

While opera was once a popular genre that appealed to all levels of society, it now suffers from a lack of audience and is too inactive in creating new works. This disconnect with the public, combined with the economic and health crisis, has weakened opera houses, leading to a retreat to standardized repertoires and a reduction in performances.

But are opera houses the only ones capable of giving birth to new works? The younger generation of composers, in particular, has been reinventing a new approach to this discipline for some years now, offering creators the possibility of skillfully combining the evolution of musical language with its stage representation.

With Laure Gauthier, David Christoffel and Christian Longchamp, this round table will be an opportunity to understand the challenges and futures of a new opera.
