SCHNEE | Abrahamsen
Het Collectief Bozar - Room M , BrusselsFrom footprints in the snow to a wild storm, 'Schnee' is a stunning evocation of white, in dialogue with the paintings of Gerhard Richter.
Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen became deeply fascinated by Johann Sebastian Bach's Fourteen Canons and drew inspiration from them for his composition *Schnee*. In this delicate piece, tailor-made for Het Collectief, Abrahamsen incorporates Bach's music into a sound world that subtly alludes to snow. One hears crunching footsteps in fresh snow, the building up of a wild snowstorm, but also moments of hushed winter melancholy. With sparse means, Abrahamsen creates an impressive richness of nuances and shades. In his paintings, Gerhard Richter explores both the apparent simplicity and the infinite variations of 'white'. Video artist Klaas Verpoest works with Richter's oeuvre to create a visual snow landscape that resonates with Abrahamsen's music.
